Our recruitment team will keep in touch with you throughout your recruitment process to ensure you understand the stage of your application.

Our ten step recruitment process is outlined below.

  • Apply online

If you are interested in joining the Rio Tinto Aluminium team please apply for vacancies on this website. Please note applications can only be accepted online for a specific vacancy.
  • Receive acknowledgement of application

Once you have submitted your application online, you will receive an email to acknowledge that we have received your application.
  • Discuss the application

Our recruitment advisors shortlist applicants and if successful, you may be contacted for a short telephone interview. It is likely that this discussion will take between 20-30 minutes. During this time our recruitment advisor will also explain the recruitment process and give some indicative timeframes for the process.
  • Provide references

In the application form, you are asked to provide contact details for two referees who can confirm your work experience. Referees will be contacted and asked to comment on your skills and experience relevant to the position. Referees should have direct knowledge of your abilities.
  • Have interviews

Based on the information provided in your application and during the phone discussion, you may be invited to attend a series of interviews. You will be asked questions about your skills and experience and how these relate to the vacant position. At the commencement of the interview process, we will provide more information about Rio Tinto Aluminium and the available position. We also encourage you to ask any specific questions that you may have about the company, the role or our recruitment process.
  • Undertake relevant testing

Paper and pencil testing may be included in our recruitment process. These tests provide us with additional information about your safety awareness, general temperament and ability to learn. Anyone unsure about the testing should discuss this with their recruitment advisor. Once completed, applicants are encouraged to seek feedback from the tests which is made available to everyone who undertakes this type of testing.
  • Additional assessments

For some specific roles, additional forms of assessment may be undertaken. Details of these will be explained to all applicants at the interview stage.
Graduates may be asked to attend an assessment centre based on the information provided in the application and through other stages of the recruitment process. Your assessment centre may run for up to two days and include interviews, exercises to display your technical skills, and standard paper and pencil tests. During your assessment centre, you will be provided with more information about Rio Tinto Aluminium and the available positions. We encourage you to take this opportunity to ask any specific questions that you may have about the company, the role or our recruitment process.
