Rio Tinto Aluminium's rolling slab product range includes alloys for sheet and plate applications such as chemical process equipment, hollow ware and general sheet metal work. While this is Rio Tinto Aluminium's range of standard alloys, customer specific compositions are possible. If applications require alloys or properties other than those listed, please contact us.
Casting technology
Rio Tinto Aluminium's slab melt treatment consists of in-furnace treatment, in-line degassing and ceramic foam filtration. This process is designed to produce high quality rolling slab with minimum sodium, hydrogen and non-metallic inclusions. The casting process uses open-mould technology with automated metal level control. Conventional and Low Head Composite (LHC) tooling is used. This technology provides:
- Uniform macro and microstructures
- Minimum surface casting defects
- Tight dimensional tolerances
