Hubie van Dalsen is responsible for Rio Tinto Aluminium's bauxite and alumina marketing and operations. This includes the bauxite mining operations at Weipa, the 100 per cent owned Rio Tinto Aluminium Yarwun refinery located in Gladstone, Queensland and Rio Tinto Aluminium's interest in the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery, also located in Gladstone, Queensland.

Hubie was born in Namibia, Africa. He was educated at the University of Pretoria where he completed a degree in mechanical engineering and at the University of London (London Business School) where he graduated with a M.Sc. in Finance.

Hubie joined Rio Tinto in 1989 at Palabora in South Africa where he held a series of technical and operational positions. In 1994, he relocated to the head office of Rio Tinto in London where he worked in the Business Evaluation Department.

In 1997, Hubie was appointed vice-president of finance at Rio Tinto's Diavik Diamonds Project in the Northwest Territories of Canada. In 2001, he was appointed managing director Dampier Salt before assuming his current position at Rio Tinto Aluminium in 2003.
